Country Music - Billy Ray Cyrus
One can't think of Billy Ray Cyrus without the words "Achy, Breaky Heart", the song which was both his success and the link to his downfall. The catchy tune released in 1992 on his Some Gave All album stayed on top of the country and pop charts for 17 weeks and won the CMA Single of the Year award. The song became synonymous with Billy, and after its popularity fizzled, so did he. His next album It Won't Be the Last reached platinum status and rose to number three on the pop charts for a short time. The success of Achy, Breaky Heart couldn't be replicated. Cyrus grew up wanting to be a baseball star, and won a baseball scholarship to Georgetown University. While in college, his career path changed when he decided he wanted to become a singer. Playing in bands for several years, he went from Ohio to Los Angeles to Kentucky. On a trip to Nashville, he was signed by Mercury Records and recorded Achy, Breaky Heart. After releasing several albums and declining record sales, Cyrus disappeared from the music industry in 1991 and landed the role of a country doctor in the television sitcom Doc.
