Country Music - Chris LeDoux

Born in Biloxi, Mississippi, on October 2, 1948, Chris LeDoux used his musical talents to fund rodeo travels. Chris attended high school in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he was encouraged to compete in horseback riding. A two-time winner of Wyoming's bareback title, LeDoux received a rodeo scholarship, receiving a national title as well as becoming the world bareback riding champion in 1976. Chris started writing songs in his teens, and in 1971 began writing cowboy songs reflecting on his life in the rodeo circuit. Garth Brooks paid tribute to LeDoux in the song "Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)". In 1992, LeDoux and Brooks charted a top ten hit with "Whatcha Gonna Do With a Cowboy". Other artists who have appeared on his albums are Janie Frickie, Charlie Daniels, and Johnny Gimble. Health problems set in for LeDoux, and he underwent a liver transplant in 2000. His last album, Horsepower, was released in 2003. On March 9, 2005, Chris LeDoux died at the age of 56 from complications of liver cancer. In the same year, he was honored with the Academy of Country Music's Pioneer Award.
