Country Music - David Ball
The son of a Baptist preacher, David Ball was born into music. Growing up in Spartanburg, South Carolina, David was playing guitar at a young age. He wrote his first song in the seventh grade, and began playing bass in the school orchestra and at festivals. With the ability to play country, bluegrass, and swing, he became a talented stand up bass player. Playing in several bands, he left the Carolinas in the mid-70s, to play in Uncle Walt's Band in Austin, Texas. His next move took him solo to Nashville, where he landed a publishing contract and produced three singles in the late 1980's. A recording contract in 1993 with Warner Brothers Records produced the 1994 hit album "Thinkin' Problem". The album contained the hit songs "Thinkin' Problem" which ranked No. 2 on the charts, "Look What Followed Me Home", and "When the Thought of You Catches Up With Me". Thinkin' Problem gave Ball his first platinum, and his first Grammy, Academy of Country Music, and Country Music Association nominations. It's success earned Ball a reputation for singing realistic, emotional songs and brought him recognition as a country balladeer, his music being a mix of the 1950's and the 1990's.
