Country Music - Don Williams
Don Williams was born in Floydada, Texas, on May 27, 1939, and grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas. His first attempt in the music business came as a folk artist in a duo called the Strangers Two, who eventually evolved into a trio known as the Pozo-Seco Singers. The trio had success in the pop market with the singles "I Can Make It With You" and "Look What You've Done". After losing one member of the band, however, they disbanded, and Williams made an entrance into country music. A publishing company asked him to record some of their best songs, resulting in the release of "The Shelter of Your Eye" and "Amanda". His first number one single was "You're My Best Friend" which has become a signature sing along song at his concerts. Later hits include "Some Broken Hearts Never Mend" and "Til the Rivers All Run Dry". "I Believe in You" was both a country and a pop hit. Amidst all the hit songs, Williams scored big and is often best known for "Good Ol' Boys Like Me". His deep, smooth vocals earned him several awards including CMA's Male Vocalist of the Year in 1978, and the ACM Single of the Year in the same year.
