Country Music - Doug Stone
Doug Stone's mother was a counter singer; she taught her son to play the guitar when he was five years old. When he was a teenager, he was performing at a skating rink in his hometown of Newnan, Georgia. After high school, he found work as a mechanic and continued to play in local bars and clubs. His baritone sound has served him well, with several hits, including "A Jukebox With a Country Song" and "Come In Out of the Pain". His career climbed until 1992, when a heart attack and a quadruple bypass operation slowed him down. A year later, he returned and recorded More Love, which also contained the Top Ten singles "Addicted to a Dollar" and "I Never Knew Love". His future releases didn't chart, however, and Stone suffered another heart attack in 1995. After recuperating, his health problems were compounded when he was nearly killed in a plane crash in 1997. As a result, Doug cut back his scheduled performances and recordings, causing his record sales and fan base to decline even further. A release under a new label failed to break into the charts.
