Country Music - Dwight Yoakam
Dwight Yoakam's signature twang brought him success in the heart of Nashville during the 1980's. He was born October 23, 1956, in Pikeville, Kentucky. After an unsuccessful attempt to break into Music City, he moved to Los Angeles to try his hand with a different audience. There, the country artist began performing for rock fans. In 1984, he recorded Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., which was re-released by Reprise Records, opening the country music door. Yoakam recorded nine Top 10's throughout the 80's, and scored a number one with Buck Owens in their "Streets of Bakersfield" duet. In the early 90's, Yoakam released yet another winning album, winning a Grammy for the number two hit "Ain't That Lonely Yet". Since that time, however, he has failed to produce another commercial success, but has recorded several albums, including a greatest hits album in 2003. A successful actor, Yoakam has played the role of a villain in the movies Sling Blade and Panic Room. He is also a spokesperson for Dwight Yoakam's Bakersfield Biscuits. In 2005, he released "Blame the Vain", promoting the album under the slogan "A Sleeping Giant Awakens", penned by Douglas McPherson of Country Music People.
