Glen Campbell - Country Music
Glen Campbell is a music legend as both a country and pop artist. The Rhinestone Cowboy was born on April 22, 1936, in Billstown, Arkansas. At the age of four, he started singing and playing guitar like his ten brothers and sisters. At 14 he left for Texas to join his uncle's band, moving again at 22 to California, where he did a lot of studio work.
His legendary career began with "Gentle on My Mind", which hit number 30 on the charts but won a Grammy in 1967, followed by number two single "By the Time I Get to Phoenix". Glen was named CMA's Male Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year in 1968. He continued to top the charts with "Dreams of the Everyday Housewife" and "Wichita Lineman", a #1 country hit and #3 on the pop charts.
Campbell then landed his own TV show, The Glen Campbell Good Time Hour. His TV and film career included a starring role alongside John Wayne in the movie "True Grit". His success continued with "Galveston", "Southern Nights" and his signature song, "Rhinestone Cowboy" in 1975. The 1980's brought turmoil to Campbell's life with drug addiction, a high profile romance with the young country star Tanya Tucker, and several divorces. Among his many awards, Glen was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.
