John Anderson - Country Music
John Anderson is one country music artist who believes in living the country life as well as singing about it. Born in Apopka, Florida, on December 13, 1954, he was a rock and roll fan until he was influenced by the music of Merle Haggard in his teens. In the early 70's he moved to Nashville to pursue a career in country music.
Waiting for his big break, he worked as a roofer during the day and played in clubs at night. That break came and he earned his first top ten in 1981 with "I'm Just an Old Chunk of Coal (But I'm Gonna Be a Diamond Someday)". In 1983, he followed by cowriting and singing his first million selling hit, "Swingin", which won a CMA award, as well as earning John the CMA Horizon Award.
Because John liked to write songs about real country life, he moved to Smitville, Tennessee, where he could fish and hunt and actually live that life. It's a choice he says he made to feed his songwriting creativity. Among the number one hits that followed are Straight Tequila Night in 1992, and I Wish I Could Have Been There in 1994.
