Kellie Coffey grew up in a small town in Moore, Oklahoma, and lived a typical teenage life. While majoring in vocal performance at the University of Oklahoma, Kellie realized that she wanted to be a singer. Shortly after college, she moved to Los Angeles with a college friend, finding work as a singing waitress.

Working as a demo singer, she met her future husband, Geoff Koch, who helped her get a deal singing and writing songs for the television show Walker Texas Ranger. After four years, in L.A., she and Koch moved to Nashville, and Kellie signed a publishing contract with Warner-Chappell.

In 2000, her first Top 10 single "When You Lie Next to Me" launched her career and earned her the Academy of Country Music's Top New Female Vocalist Award in 1993. Her second single ranked in the top 15. Opening for Kenny Chesney and George Strait, her career continued to climb.

In 2004, she and her husband, Geoff, focused on another big dream; and Kellie stopped recording to have a baby. They became the proud parents of a boy, Jackson Geoffrey. During this break, Kellie continued to focus on her songwriting until she returned to release her next album.
