Moe Bandy - Country Music
Moe Bandy was born in Meridian, Mississippi, and moved with his family to San Antonio, Texas, at the age of six. Holding jobs as a rodeo rider and sheet metal worker, it was his dream to be a country music star. Bandy continued to work as a sheet metal worker, spending all of this money on his pursuit of a music career. At one point, he even pawned his furniture to pay for a recording session.
After several failed attempts, he hit the Top 20 in 1973 with "I Just Started Hatin' Cheatin' Songs Today". In 1973 he received the Most Promising Male Vocalist award from the Academy of Country Music for "Hank Williams, You Changed My Life", which topped at number three on the charts. Boe Mandy's honky tonk music continued to produce hit singles for several years.
Bandy found additional success in duets with Janie Fricke. Their song "It's a Cheatin' Situation" was awarded Song of the Year from the Academy of Country Music in 1979. Pairing up with Joe Stampley in 1981, their duet "Hey Moe, Hey Joe" reached the top ten. Changing to a slightly more pop style, his Top Ten 1988 hit "Americana" became President George Bush's campaign song. Moe Bandy owns and performs at the Moe Bandy Americana Theatre in Branson, Missouri, which is his home.
