Rhett Akins - Country Music
Born in Valdosta, Georgia, on October 13, 1969, Rhett Akins knew at a very young age that he wanted to be a singer. Nicknamed Rhettangle by his grandmother, he started his first band at the age of 10, about the same time he started writing songs. Rhett moved to Nashville to pursue his career in 1992.
His debut album, A Thousand Memories, was released in 1994, earning him the status of one of the Top Ten New Country Artists by Country America magazine in 1995. Rhett credits much of his success to his first #1 hit That Ain't My Truck, which has become his signature song. In 1995, he went on tour for the first time, opening for Reba McEntire, an invaluable experience which taught him how to relate to the audience.
Never forgetting his love for songwriting, he personally wrote most of the songs on his first album. A busy schedule doesn't allow him much time for writing, but he always sings a song for the audience and gets their reaction before it's recorded. On recording, he says "I think the album should represent the way I perform live".
