Sherrie Austin - Country Music
Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, Sherrie Austin has been singing country music for as long as she can remember. At the age of 14, she was asked to open for Johnny Cash's 1985 Australian tour, but felt she was too young and turned it down. Although Sherrie received her first Country Music Award in Tamworth, Australia, her next break came in acting.
When Austin was 17, she played the role of Pippa McKenna on the sitcom The Facts of Life. She spent her time in Hollywood taking vocal and keyboard lessons. Returning to Nashville, she began writing songs and released two albums with Artista Records: Words in 1997, and Love in the Real World in 1999. Feeling that her music was too pop, Sherrie cut her own version of Dolly Parton's "Jolene" to show her country roots.
Still not certain where her music was going, Austin left Artista and took some time off. In a songwriting venture with Al Casha and Paul Duncan, they began writing "Streets of Heaven", a song about a mother's plea to God about her sick child. She returned with the song to Nashville, and continues singing country songs with deep meaning, songs that spotlight her strong voice against acoustical guitars, mandolins, and fiddles.
