Steve Azar - Country Music
As a little boy growing up in Greenville, Mississippi, Steve Azar's favorite thing was his toy guitar. He knew by the age of ten he was going to be a singer. Originally enrolling in pre-med in college, he changed his major to business management, thinking it would be useful in a music career.
Playing in bands throughout the south, Azar grew in popularity and was encouraged to take his music to Nashville. Playing a live gig, he got noticed and signed a publishing deal. His debut album, Waitin' on Joe, 2001, gave him a No. 2 hit with "I Don't Have to be Me (till Monday). The title track on his 2003 follow up album "Waitin' on Joe" made the Top Ten, and the video featuring actor Morgan Freeman earned ranked No. 1 on CMT.
Steve credits his deep earthy singing and songwriting to the Mississippi Delta where he grew up. Mississippi loves him right back; the Governor proclaimed March 13th as Steve Azar Day. In 2004, a cyst on his vocal chord required surgery, which made Azar's voice even stronger and clearer. Although known for his singing, Steve Azar is also a songwriter, producer, engineer, as well as being extremely talented on the mandolin, acoustic and lead guitars.
