Tammy Cochran - Country Music
Born in Austinburg, Ohio, Tammy Cochran learned her first song "Heartaches by the Number" at the age of eight and spent her childhood singing along to songs by Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, and Barbara Mandrell. Winning a talent contest when she was just 12, Tammy started her own band, TC Country, when she was a teenager.
After being trained in vocational school to be a secretary, Tammy and her parents moved to Nashville in 1991 to pursue her music career. Performing at various venues around town, she secured a songwriting contract with Warner-Chappell Music in 1998. Her first single, "If You Can" was released by Sony Music in 2000.
It was, however, a song she co-penned about her own life, "Angels in Waiting" which caught the attention of the music industry. Angels is the story of Tammy's two brothers, Shawn and Alan, who died of cystic fibrosis. The song earned her five award nominations from the Academy of Country Music. Tammy followed "Angels" with another hit song, "I Cry". Her many efforts to increase public awareness of cystic fibrosis were acknowledged when Family Circle named Cochran one of the "Women Who Make a Difference".
