Unofficially he's known as the Ambassador of Country Music, but his fans know him as Vince Gill. Born April 12, 1957, in Norman, Oklahoma, Gill credits his love for music to his father, a federal judge. He grew up playing banjo and guitar, and actually got his start in the music industry by performing bluegrass and pop.

After completing high school, he joined several bands, becoming the lead singer for Pure Prairie League. His first solo hits, Oklahoma Borderline and Cinderella were cut in 1983. 1989 became the real turning point of his career with "When I Call Your Name," which won the CMA's Single of the Year award. Since then, his pure tenor singing has won 16 Grammys, and 17 more CMA honors, being named Entertainer of the Year twice and Song of the Year four times.

Gill was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 1991. He married country artist Amy Grant in 2000 and has played in her band during her tour. Producing his 2003 album, Next Big Thing, won Gill yet another Grammy award. The Ambassador, noted for his quick wit and likeable personality, has hosted the Country Music Awards since 1992.

In addition to singing and songwriting, Gill is active in many charities and has a passion for golf. He founded "The Vinny", a pro-celebrity golf tournament in 1993, to raise funds for the Junior Golf Program. He was presented with the Career Achievement Award by TNN & CMT Country Weekly to honor his career and contributions.
